PM Modi Launches Indigenous 4G Stack, Boosting India's Telecom Infrastructure

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the indigenous 4G stack developed by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), marking a significant advancement in India's telecommunications infrastructure. This launch coincides with BSNL's silver jubilee celebrations, positioning India among a select group of countries, including Denmark, Sweden, South Korea, and China, that manufacture their own telecom equipment.

During the event, the Prime Minister stated, "This launch signifies a journey from dependence to self-confidence, promoting employment, exports, fiscal revival, and the vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India)." The introduction of a fully indigenous 4G network aligns with Modi's vision for a Digital India, aiming to bridge the digital divide and empower rural communities. He expressed pride in BSNL's achievement of developing this technology domestically, stating that the organization has written a new chapter in history through its hard work and expertise. India now stands among the five nations with fully indigenous technology for launching 4G services.

Key Features of the 'Indigenous' 4G Network:

- The new cloud-based 'indigenous' 4G stack is designed to be future-ready and seamlessly upgradeable to 5G.

- According to officials, this adaptability ensures that BSNL can rapidly roll out next-generation services across the country, bolstering India's ambitions under the Digital India initiative.

- This launch will connect over 26,700 unconnected villages, including 2,472 in Odisha, particularly in remote, border, and left-wing extremism-affected areas.

- BSNL's towers are spread across Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Assam, Gujarat, and Bihar.

- Alongside the 4G stack, the Prime Minister also inaugurated over 97,500 mobile towers, including approximately 92,600 4G-enabled sites built at a cost of around ₹37,000 crores.

- These new installations are expected to serve over 2 million new customers.

- The towers are powered by solar energy, making them part of India's largest group of green telecom sites and a step towards sustainable infrastructure.

- Additionally, the Prime Minister unveiled the 100% 4G saturation network in India through the Digital India Fund, connecting 29,000 to 30,000 villages under a mission-mode project.
